Teaching English in China

Teaching English in China can be a wonderful experience but preparation is required to avoid difficulties and disappointment.  The United States Embassy in Beijing has prepared an informal guide that Americans considering teaching English in China can use as a starting point.  The guide can be found here.  Please note that this guide describes circumstances in the Beijing consular district and the situation may vary in other parts of China.

Two important points that Americans considering teaching English in China should remember are that they should verify that the school they plan to work for is authorized to hire foreigners and all Americans intending to work in China should enter China on a work visa. Please email the Consulate if you have specific questions regarding English teaching in southwest China.
